Abstract

ABSTRACT
The feminist perspective seeks to challenge texts such as the Quran, claiming they are rooted in patriarchy, based on the principle of gender equality. Contrary to this belief, there are numerous verses that specifically address women, honoring and praising them. This research employs a descriptive-analytical method to examine the interpretive statement of the Quranic verse "And the male is not like the female," aiming to provide a credible interpretive theory based on the views of commentators and the internal or external contexts of the verse in light of the mentioned doubt. Commentators have proposed two viewpoints regarding the speaker of the aforementioned Quranic statement: either it is the word of God or the speech of the Maryam's mother (peace be upon her). Some, like Meybodi, have considered the statement, regardless of its speaker, as indicative of the superiority of men over women. The results of this research indicate that the speaker of the Quranic phrase "And the male is not like the female" is the Maryam's mother (peace be upon her), which was either issued to compare the service of a daughter and a son to the temple or to highlight the status of Maryam (peace be upon her) over other male children who have even made vows for service to the synagogue, as well as to emphasize Mary's role in relation to the prophet who will heal the blind and the leprous and bring the dead to life by God's permission. This theory is also consistent with the narration regarding the occasion of the verse's revelation.
