Although the Holy Qur’an stresses the common essence of all human beings, it also acknowledges distinctive emotional and psychological traits associated with each gender. These distinctions can enhance a person’s capacity to cope with mental and emotional difficulties. Assuming that awareness of gender differences and the strengths unique to men and women plays an important role in defining responsibilities, managing expectations, and assigning tasks, this study explores the following question: According to the Qur’an, in what ways do men and women draw on meaning-making to overcome emotional and psychological challenges and strengthen their resilience in times of hardship?Using qualitative content analysis, selected Qur’anic verses related to meaning-making and emotional coping were examined. The findings show that meaning-making acts as a psychological–philosophical strategy for reducing internal tension. However, its application does not manifest identically in both genders. Men tend to confront difficulties through action and problem-solving, seeking to change external circumstances and gain control over their environment to reduce stress. Women, on the other hand, are more likely to engage in emotional regulation, managing and directing their feelings as a means of coping with inner turmoil. Understanding these differing capacities can contribute to more effective psychological counseling and reinforce the importance of integrating religious approaches into support interventions.
