This study was conducted with the aim of comparatively examining Snyder’s Hope Theory in positive psychology and the concept of rajā (religious hope) in Islamic teachings, as well as elucidating their educational applications, using a qualitative content analysis method. Accordingly, Snyder’s three components—goals thinking, agency thinking, and pathways thinking—were examined and compared with the components of religious hope, namely purposefulness, tawakkul (reliance on God), the use of means, and effort. The findings indicate that both perspectives share an emphasis on the necessity of purposeful orientation and the active role of human effort. However, fundamental differences exist between the two approaches regarding the “source” and “nature” of hope. Whereas hope in Snyder’s theory is primarily focused on cognitive and individual capacities, religious hope (rajāʾ) is divine in nature and is grounded in reliance on the will of God. Ultimately, this study concludes that integrating these two perspectives may contribute to the development of more comprehensive models in counseling, religious education, and crisis management. By drawing on the strengths of both scientific and spiritual domains, this integrative approach redefines hope as a bridge between rational human endeavor and reliance on the infinite power of God. This valuable synthesis offers effective educational applications for strengthening resilience and promoting mental health.
